Catherine’s Dress on Display
The Duchess of Cambridge’s Royal Wedding dress and other items from her wedding attire will be on display at Buckingham Palace during the annual Summer Opening between 23 July and 3 October 2011.
The Royal Wedding dress, designed by British designer Sarah Burton of the House of Alexander McQueen, is made from ivory and white organza and its elegant shape has been likened to the ‘opening of a flower’. Catherine’s veil was made of layers of soft, ivory silk-tulle with a trim of flowers hand-embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework, and held in place by a Cartier ‘Halo’ tiara lent to the bride by The Queen.
Also on display are the bride’s wedding shoes which are hand-made from ivory duchesse satin and lace, and the diamond earrings designed by London jewellers Robinson Pelham which were a personal gift from her parents.
The Duke and Duchess’s wedding cake created by Leicestershire-based cake designer Fiona Cairns is included in the display.
