All you need to know about Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge

The Prince Returns

Apr 2012

After being deployed in the Falkland Islands for six weeks, Prince William returned to the UK at the end of March 2012.

The Prince has been working for the Royal Air Force, as a search and rescue pilot in the South Atlantic.  The remote archipelago, known as the Falklands Islands, is renowned for its rugged beauty and rich wildlife.  The 30th anniversary of Argentina’s invasion of The Falklands was marked on Monday 3 April 2012.

Catherine greeted her Prince back at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire in the early hours, before returning to their London home at Kensington Palace for a few days of leave.  The Royal Couple will, for the moment, continue to live in North Wales, near Prince William’s RAF base.

While The Duke of Cambridge has been away on duty, The Duchess has been occupied with various royal obligations, including visits to her various patronages, and engagements with The Queen as part of The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Appropriately, while her husband was working in the Falklands, Catherine carried out her first solo military engagement.  On St Patrick’s Day, Catherine visited the 1st Battalion Irish Guards at their base in Aldershot.  The Duchess presented sprigs of shamrock to the Guards, and to their Irish Wolfhound – their regional mascot.
