The Queen Will Not Pass on the VAT

Jan 2011

The Queen has not passed on the higher rate of VAT to her customers in order to help boost sales of Royal Wedding souvenirs.

The official merchandise is said to be “flying off the shelves” exceeding expectations by 30 per cent.

A spokeswoman from Royal Collection said “We have taken the decision to absorb the increase simply because we can. I think a lot of retailers are choosing to do the same.”

By not passing on the VAT increase to their customers Royal Collection has cut their profit margins from the souvenirs to ensure that the higher VAT rate is not passed on to their customers.

Official Royal Souvenirs can be purchased from Royal Collection shops at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Holyroodhouse.
